Accessing essential services such as health care, housing, education, police services, and settlement assistance should be a basic right for all people in Toronto, regardless of their immigration status. A Don`t Ask Don't Tell policy (DADT) for accessing services without fear of detention and deportation would ensure that a lack of immigration status does not deny someone their most basic rights to human security and well-being.
This forum and workshops will address:
- How current immigration laws and policies impact the rights of non/precarious status people to access social services
- Attacks on safe spaces and community initiatives to support non/precarious status people in accessing social services
- Rights and duties of service providers working with immigrant and refugee communities towards immigration and law enforcement
- How service providers in various social sectors can develop tangible, effective policies to ensure access to services to non/precarious status people and develop a Sanctuary City where all of us can live without fear!
- Service providers working with immigrant and refugee communities in various capacities and social sectors, including housing advocacy, shelters, education, settlement services, counselling, and community health.
